ATLANTA (AP) — Jalen Johnson scored 28 points and the Atlanta Hawks closed out a four-game homestand, winning a third straight contest, 120-110 over the Miami Heat on Saturday. Trae Young added his 22nd double-double of the season, with 11 point and 15 assist, and De'Andre Hunter scored 26 points in his 14th consecutive game with at least 15 points coming off the bench. Tyler Herro scored 28 points and dished out 10 assists and Bam Adebayo added 17 points and 10 rebounds. It was the Heat's fourth game in a row without star Jimmy Butler , who sat out for what the team called “return to competition reconditioning.” Heat: Miami lost despite five players finishing with double-digit point totals. The Heat shot 44.4% from the field, but it wasn't enough to overcome a Hawks team that hit over half of its shots, 51.2% from the field. Hawks: Johnson has been on an offensive tear in his last two games. He finished two points shy of his single-game career high of 30 points, set in his last game, on Thursday against the Chicago Bulls. Hunter also finished just one point shy of his single-game career high of 27 points. After a close first half that featured nine lead changes, Atlanta seized control early in the second half. With five minutes to go in the third quarter, Atlanta’s Garrison Mathews and Hunter hit back-to-back 3s to give Atlanta an 81-72 lead, their biggest of the night, and forcing a Miami timeout. Young finished one assist shy of a franchise single-game record for assists against the Miami Heat, set by Mookie Blaylock in 1993. The Hawks begin a six-game road trip in Toronto on Sunday, while the Heat visits the Rockets on Sunday. AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBABOSTON — Forty years ago, Heisman Trophy winner Doug Flutie rolled to his right and threw a pass that has become one of college football’s most iconic moments. With Boston College trailing defending champion Miami, Flutie threw the Hail Mary and found receiver Gerard Phalen, who made the grab while falling into the end zone behind a pair of defenders for a game-winning 48-yard TD. Flutie and many of his 1984 teammates were honored on the field during BC’s 41-21 victory over North Carolina before the second quarter on Saturday afternoon, the anniversary of the Eagles’ Miracle in Miami. “There’s no way its been 40 years,” Flutie told The Associated Press on the sideline a few minutes before he walked out with some of his former teammates to be recognized after a video of The Play was shown on the scoreboards. A statue commemorating Doug Flutie's famed "Hail Mary" pass during a game against Miami on Nov. 23, 1994, sits outside Alumni Stadium at Boston College. Famous football plays often attain a legendary status with religious names like the "Immaculate Reception," the "Hail Mary" pass and the Holy Roller fumble. It’s a moment and highlight that’s not only played throughout decades of BC students and fans, but around the college football world. “What is really so humbling is that the kids 40 years later are wearing 22 jerseys, still,” Flutie said of his old number. “That amazes me.” That game was played on national TV the Friday after Thanksgiving. The ironic thing is it was originally scheduled for earlier in the season before CBS paid Rutgers to move its game against Miami, thus setting up the BC-Miami post-holiday matchup. Boston College quarterback Doug Flutie rejoices in his brother Darren's arms after B.C. defeats Miami with a last second touchdown pass on Nov. 23, 1984, in Miami. “It shows you how random some things are, that the game was moved,” Flutie said. “The game got moved to the Friday after Thanksgiving, which was the most watched game of the year. We both end up being nationally ranked and up there. All those things lent to how big the game itself was, and made the pass and the catch that much more relevant and remembered because so many people were watching.” There’s a statue of Flutie winding up to make The Pass outside the north gates at Alumni Stadium. Fans and visitors can often be seen taking photos there. “In casual conversation, it comes up every day,” Flutie said, when asked how many times people bring it up. “It brings a smile to my face every time we talk about it.” A week after the game-ending Flutie pass, the Eagles beat Holy Cross and before he flew off to New York to accept the Heisman. They went on to win the 49th Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Day. Boston College quarterback Doug Flutie evades Miami defensive tackle Kevin Fagan during the first quarter of a game on Nov. 23, 1984, in Miami, Fla. “Forty years seem almost like incomprehensible,” said Phalen, also standing on the sideline a few minutes after the game started. “I always say to Doug: ‘Thank God for social media. It’s kept it alive for us.”’ Earlier this week, current BC coach Bill O’Brien, 55, was asked if he remembered where he was 40 years ago. “We were eating Thanksgiving leftovers in my family room,” he said. “My mom was saying a Rosary in the kitchen because she didn’t like Miami and wanted BC to win. My dad, my brother and I were watching the game. “It was unbelievable,” he said. “Everybody remembers where they were for the Hail Mary, Flutie pass.” Mike Tyson, left, slaps Jake Paul during a weigh-in ahead of their heavyweight bout, Thursday, Nov. 14, 2024, in Irving, Texas. Providence, Oklahoma hope key players are back in BahamasWicked director Jon M. Chu explained his approach to the sweeping musical’s color grading, after some fans online lamented that the film did not contain the same technicolor prowess present in the original 1939 The Wizard of Oz. In a recent interview with Canadian outlet The Globe and Mail , the Crazy Rich Asians helmer was asked about his approach to the pink-and-green tinged movie, which the interviewer deemed “a little desaturated.” “I mean, there’s color all over it. I think what we wanted to do was immerse people into Oz, to make it a real place,” Chu said of the decision. “Because if it was a fake place, if it was a dream in someone’s mind, then the real relationships and the stakes that these two girls are going through wouldn’t feel real.” The filmmaker continued, “It’s also [presented in] a way we have not experienced Oz before. It’s been a matte painting. It’s been a video game digital world. But for us, I want to feel the dirt. I want to feel the wear and tear of it. And that means it’s not plastic.” Debate around the film’s look has stretched on since the beginning of September, lasting up and through the film’s theatrical premiere Nov. 22. Some users on X have expressed distaste for the “backlighting” and “drab” coloring of the movie, while others have defended the aesthetic and hit back at those trying to layer warming filters across shots of the film. Also notable is that the process of technicolor has largely been discontinued and deemed impossible to replicate, given its cost and that the tech required has gone out of vogue. “We have the environment. The sun is the main source of light. You see the vast landscapes. You see the air. You see creatures exist here. These two characters that will go through two movies, their relationship with the land is important; their relationship with the nature of this land that the wizard imposed himself. The [color] contrast goes up over time because that is what Elphaba brings to this world,” Chu concluded. Regardless, the discussion has not slowed the film down from defying gravity at the box office, breaking a slew of records including biggest global and domestic opening for a movie based on a Broadway show, for stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo and helmer Chu. The movie also had the largest global opening for a non-sequel film this year. One-half of “Glicked,” the theatrical event also featuring Ridley Scott’s Gladiator II , the musical fueled a $205 million opening weekend , marking the best pre-Thanksgiving box office in over a decade. Part One of the adaptation of the Tony-winning Broadway production — itself based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel, which retells the story of The Wizard of Oz from the point of view of the Wicked Witch of the West — follows Elphaba (Erivo) and Glinda the Good Witch’s (Grande) relationship prior to their eventual destinies. The film also stars Jonathan Bailey, Bowen Yang, Michelle Yeoh, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater and Peter Dinklage.IonQ, Quantum Computing And Rigetti Computing Shares Are Soaring Monday: What's Going On?Facing record-breaking heat and a dwindling water supply, Utah farmers are experimenting with innovative crops to sustain agriculture in the arid West. Rancher Matt Redd, who operates Dugout Ranch near Canyonlands National Park, is among those leading the charge. On Redd's ranch, one field grows alfalfa under wheel line irrigation, while an adjacent field is planted with Kernza, a drought-tolerant grain that requires far less water. Even during Utah's scorching summer, Redd didn't irrigate the Kernza crop from July to September. "It looks good. It looks productive," he told local radio station KUER. "And it's taken less than half the water we've used on our irrigated pasture." Developed by Kansas-based agricultural researchers at The Land Institute, Kernza offers a sustainable alternative to traditional grains. Its roots stretch over 10 feet deep, enabling it to survive prolonged droughts, improve soil health and prevent erosion. Unlike annual crops like wheat, Kernza is a perennial, eliminating the need for yearly replanting and reducing diesel fuel use. The grain has already found its way into consumer products, from cereals to beer, offering new markets for farmers. Redd, who also serves as the project director for The Nature Conservancy's Canyonlands Research Center, is testing Kernza on his ranch to assess its potential for large-scale use in Utah. "Its potential to be both a grazing forage crop as well as a hay crop that uses less water—and takes less fossil fuels to plant—makes it a really good candidate for agriculture adapting to climate change in the Southwest," Redd said. However, challenges remain, not least the higher cost of Kernza seeds and the fact that they take longer to establish than other crops. Late last year, Redd planted his first 20 acres of Kernza and plans to expand with another field next spring. The success or failure of these experiments could play a vital role in encouraging other farmers in the region to abandon water-guzzling crops like alfalfa. The Colorado River, a vital water source for more than 40 million people that feeds Lake Powell and Lake Mead , has struggled in recent decades as agriculture and other water demands have piled up. Irrigation uses more than half of the river's water, according to data shared by NASA and published in the journal Communications Earth & Environment earlier this year. Alfalfa and other hay-like cattle feed consume most of that share—nearly a third of the river's total flow. "It's well known that crop irrigation is the largest water user worldwide," Laura Rocchio wrote for NASA. "The Colorado River Basin is no different; crops consume three times more water than all other direct human uses combined (municipal, commercial and industrial)." Redd envisions crops like Kernza, combined with advancements in irrigation technology, as key to securing the future of farming in Utah. He added, "There's no single silver bullet that will solve the challenges we face in this changing world. But this is one piece of the puzzle that can help agriculture remain sustainable." The NFL has fined Philadelphia Eagles defensive back C.J. Gardner-Johnson for his pair of unsportsmanlike conduct penalties and subsequent ejection in a loss to the Washington Commanders on Sunday, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero. Gardner-Johnson will be on the hook for a hefty dollar amount, paying $45,022 for his actions. Along with his pair of personal fouls, he also gave the middle finger to the Commanders crowd as he walked off the field to the locker room. Gardner-Johnson also spoke up about his ejection after the game, a last-second loss for the Eagles, 36-33, to Washington. On social media, Gardner-Johnson said he was kicked out for no reason . “Respectfully got kicked out for nothing, I play with passion and fire!!” Gardner-Johnson said . “Guys was chirping all day what u expect!!” In the second half of the NFC East contest, Gardner-Johnson was disqualified after being penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. The former Florida Gators star was seen verbally going after Commanders players, and it was his second unsportsmanlike penalty of the day. The other came in the first quarter, and NFL rules state a player is disqualified after they are hit with two unsportsmanlike penalties in one game. Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts is recovering from a concussion After suffering a head-injury during last weekend’s game against the Washington Commanders, Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts remains in concussion protocol as of Thursday, according to head coach Nick Sirianni . That means Kenny Pickett is currently in-line to start this weekend’s clash with the Dallas Cowboys, after finishing the Eagles’ Week 16 loss to the Commanders once Hurts left with the aforementioned ailment. “Nick Sirianni says Jalen Hurts remains in concussion protocol and ‘It’s going to be tough for him to make it this week.’ Looking like Kenny Pickett Sunday against the Cowboys,” ESPN’s Tim McManus said on Thursday. After being thrust into action, Pickett put up some solid numbers, completing 14-of-24 pass attempts for 143 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Eagles weren’t able to hold on for the win, but the quarterback was far from the main reason why they fell to the Commanders. Perhaps a full week of practice with the starters in Philadelphia will work wonders for Kenny Pickett, as Jalen Hurts tries to get healthy for the stretch run with the Eagles. This weekend’s contest with the Cowboys will kickoff at 1:00 p.m. on FOX. NEW YORK — Henry Lutovsky emerged from the visitors’ clubhouse wearing an unbuttoned Yankees jersey with his No. 59 on the back. A gift from the Pinstripe Bowl. The Nebraska offensive lineman considers whether Saturday has made him a Yankees fan. Then he nods. “I don’t even watch baseball,” the blocker from eastern Iowa said. “But I am now.” From the venue of one of Major League Baseball’s most iconic teams, Lutovsky had curses on his mind. Not the one with the Bambino or the Billy Goat, but the one he’d heard about Nebraska football for four seasons. The bowl drought. The run of consecutive losing seasons. All of it seemed especially made-up as the Huskers celebrated a 20-15 win over Boston College on a soaked field. “This group didn’t believe in that curse,” Lutovsky said. “We showed it — we made it to a bowl and we won it. I think this is great momentum to carry into the offseason. This is something we can work to achieve again and do better than again next year.” Now the supposed jinx has been exposed as fiction, Lutovsky said. And the coming offseason of work can finally be about building on something instead of starting something different. Luke Lindenmeyer shrugged. If anything, an afternoon at the Pinstripe Bowl made him less sure about what Nebraska tight ends could do next season. “I have no idea,” the third-year player from La Vista said Saturday from the bowels of Yankee Stadium. “That’s the best part.” The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder finished with the best production of his college career — two catches for 22 yards — while blocking and lining up all over the soggy field. Of his five career catches, four have come in the four games since offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen took over in early November. Lindenmeyer suddenly moves toward the front of a position group stuffed with intrigue. Thomas Fidone still has one more year of eligibility after two straight seasons as a regular starter. Meanwhile, Heinrich Haarberg is continuing his transition from quarterback to tight end while former four-star prospect Mac Markway — who abruptly left LSU for NU early in fall camp — may also be a factor in his return from a torn ACL. Former No. 2 tight end Nate Boerkircher this month transferred to Texas A&M while reserve AJ Rollins also left the team. Nebraska has not put an emphasis on targeting tight ends in the portal. The emergence of Lindenmeyer — as displayed Saturday — is one reason why. “Ever since I came here I’ve been working,” Lindenmeyer said. “I came in as a walk-on and it still kind of feels like I’m a walk-on — I still have more to prove. When (Holgorsen) came in he saw how hard I work and how I can fit in his offense. He just put me in places where I can fly.” Get local news delivered to your inbox!Interactive Brokers chairman Thomas Peterffy sees a crash as one of the biggest risks that could lead to a stock market decline in 2025. In an interview with last week, Peterffy explained why he is concerned that the stock market could decline in 2025. The problem Petterffy sees is the high levels of leverage coursing through the system. "A downturn is a very big risk because margin balances have been growing very, very quickly," Peterffy said. According to Peterffy, one area that has seen a big spike in margin-based risk-taking is bitcoin, which benefits from low fees on bitcoin futures charged by the CME. "I am very worried that people overextended themselves," Peterffy said. Margin based on the value of their investment account, and use the proceeds to buy more assets. While the strategy can juice returns while the market is rising, a correction could unravel the margin debt strategy if an investor's account falls below a certain threshold. This would force them to exit their positions at a lower price and likely at a loss or add new cash to the account to meet the margin threshold imposed by the brokerage firm. FINRA margin debt hit its highest level since February 2022 in October, at about $815 billion, according to YCharts data. Meanwhile, to add to its bitcoin stash. But if bitcoin saw a sudden and sharp decline, it could unravel the margin debt as investors could be forced to sell their assets to meet margin calls, putting further pressure on prices. "Bitcoin falls say 30, 40, 50% from one day to the next. There would be many bankruptcies, the clearing houses would be unable to pick up the pieces," Peterffy warned. When asked directly about his views on bitcoin, Peterffy admitted he was "scared" by it, adding, "they can go to any price because it's basically just a figment of the imagination, so it doesn't have any underlying value." To limit his firm's exposure to a potential meltdown in cryptocurrencies, Peterffy noted that Interactive Brokers limits its customers from investing more than 10% of their assets directly into bitcoin because he thinks "that would be very dangerous." In a statement to Business Insider, Interactive Brokers confirmed that the platform applies limits to clients' maximum bitcoin exposure. "To ensure cryptocurrencies remain a complement to our core business, we will limit clients from opening cryptocurrency positions above certain thresholds through any IBKR-linked Cryptocurrency Service Providers," Interactive Brokers told Business Insider. Despite Peterffy's concerns surrounding cryptocurrencies, bitcoin has been on a tear, above $107,000. But Peterffy isn't alone in his cautious stance on the world's largest cryptocurrency. In BCA Research strategist Peter Berezin argued that the token is nothing more than a leveraged bet on technology stocks and warned investors that it could crash 57% to $45,000 in 2025. Analysts typically rate each stock once per quarter. In addition to their assessments, some analysts extend their insights by offering predictions for key metrics such as earnings, revenue, and growth estimates. When asked about the team's issues after New York's losing streak extended to six straight games, star rookie receiver Malik Nabers said the team's play was "soft as f--k." Nabers added the team's struggles weren't due to quarterback play, but he was at a loss for words as to what is actually holding the team back. "I don't know what it is, but I know I'm tired of losing," Nabers told reporters. The Giants were lifeless in front of their home crowd at MetLife Stadium. Their lone touchdown came on a one-yard rush by Devin Singletary early in the fourth quarter when the Bucs had already taken a 30-0 lead. DeVito threw for 189 yards on 21-of-31 passing while adding seven rushes for 32 yards in his first start of the season. While he didn't commit any turnovers, he struggled to connect with New York's playmakers, as Nabers had team-highs of six catches and 64 yards. In addition to the team's lethargic offense, the Giants defense struggled to get a stop all game. New York allowed 450 yards of total offense to Tampa Bay and rushing touchdowns to four different players. At 2-9, the Giants are well out of playoff contention and will likely be undergoing major changes this offseason. Following this week's release of Jones, New York is expected to target a quarterback with its first-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft. The Giants won't have much time to figure out their issues, as they will be back in action on Thanksgiving Day this week in an NFC East clash against the rival Dallas Cowboys.

Members of The Billy Connolly Appreciation Society on Facebook were quick to send their support and kind words to the comedy hero. Billy Connolly (Image: Sourced) James Power said: “[Billy] is the funniest man ever, had 40+ years of side splitting laughter.” Steven Rooke said: ”Happy 82nd birthday to world Legend Mr Billy Connolly.” Vanessa Jones said: “Happy Birthday Billy. Hope you have a blast.” Richard Smart said: “Happy birthday to the greatest stand up comedian I have ever seen second to absolutely no one, keep on trucking Big Yin.” Professional bagpiper Graham McAvoy said: “Happy Birthday Billy from the bagpiper at your concert in Rothesay. You said you would never forget me. “You didn't as you bought me a Guinness in the Scotia and had a wee chat, 'Jimmy wasn't in the bar'.” Lorraine Coles said: “Happy birthday to the man I turn to, in trouble times too make me laugh.” We previously reported how Sir Billy opened up about facing death and living with Parkinson's. The Scottish star revealed that he has seen the funny side to death and has come to terms with his illness. Sir Billy was diagnosed with prostate cancer and Parkinson's on the same day in 2013 and has since recovered from cancer. Speaking on BBC show 'In My Own Words', Sir Billy shares how he laughed off his diagnosis: "Yes, it was a funny week I had. "On the Monday, I had hearing aids. On the Tuesday I got pills for heartburn, which I have to take all the time, and on the Wednesday I got news that I had prostate cancer and Parkinson's. "The doctors told me on the phone, ‘Look we have had the results and it is cancer.’ I said ‘Oh, nobody has ever said that to be me before’." Revealing the first thing his wife did, Sir Billy added: "My wife Pamela (Stephenson) was standing behind me and gave me a cuddle. I was not unduly worried." Sir Billy had previously joked in an interview with The Mirror that his Parkinson's must have been caused by appearing on Michael Parkinson's chat show so much. Telling the paper: "I just thought ‘I have got Parkinson's. I wish he (Michael) had kept it to himself!’ It was easy (making fun if it). "You just confront it and make decisions based on it. You just have to think ‘Don't think you are being badly treated (in life) or you have the bad pick of the straws. You are one of millions’. Just behave yourself and relax. "You then realise it (death) is not the big thing everyone has made it out to be. It is nothing. It is just a sudden nothing."
